Description
Andy Warhol's soup cans and Roy Lichtenstein's comic strip art are well known as quintessential Pop art, the wildly popular movement that is identified with the 1960's in the U.S. less well known is the fact that Pop art was an international art movement, as demonstrated by the exhibition "International Pop" at the Philadelphia Museum of Art in spring 2016. This course, like the exhibition, traces the migration of the style from the UK to the US to western and eastern Europe, Latin America, and Japan. It will focus on the distinct forms of the style in each region as well as the shard interest in mass media, consumerism and figuration.
