Essential skills for successful scientists

Thriving in an academic workplace requires skills that aren't usually taught in school; this course will close that gap. You will gain expertise in writing persuasively, speaking like a scientist, finding grant/fellowship opportunities, formatting a CV/résumé, using software for citing references, and generating stunning figures to present your data, including the principles of photography. As a final project, each student will undergo a mock thesis proposal defense or comprehensive exam defense in front of the class.
